WELL Readiness Resource

Introduction

For some time now, Australian Energy Industry organisations have been employing large numbers of apprentices with view to addressing the severe skill shortages currently affecting their sectors.

After working as qualified tradespeople for a number of years, many of these individuals are seeking technical officer and para-professional positions.

In addition to the advanced technical skills and knowledge required, work at these levels demands the use of a very different suite of workplace English, language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) capabilities. Technical officers and para-professionals require advanced written and oral communication skills, workplace leadership and management skills. They also require highly developed capability in mathematics and physics. In regard the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF), technical officers and para-professionals are generally considered to work at Levels 4 and 5 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) - a national reference point for identifying core skill requirements and levels.

This free-to-access, web-based resource has been developed to assist industry organisations support employees wanting to complete Diploma/Advanced Diploma studies and work more efficiently and effectively in technical officer and para-professional positions.

The content and questions included in this Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) readiness resource have been designed by industry and tertiary education sector LLN experts and aim to identify a participant's LLN capabilities against the work requirements of a technical officer or para-professional in the Australian Energy Industries and the ACSF.
